The other day I was given a ticket for window tint?

The other day I was given a ticket for window tint. I have no tint in the front windshield nor the driver or passenger side. In georgia is it illegal to have tint and is it legal for a cop to give you a ticket if you didnt know that reguler tint was illegal in georgia ? I do have tint in my back windows but viewers from outside can still see clean through my car.The other day I was given a ticket for window tint?
"Ignorance of the law is no excuse" is something we are all taught in government/civics classes.
From the GA code: "...this Code section shall not apply to: (6) The rear windshield or the side or door windows, except those windows to the right and left of the driver of:(A) A multipurpose passenger vehicle." If tinting is legal on windshield, front sides then you should not have been ticketed.

It's not illegal for the officer to give you a ticket for a window tint violation. This is pretty common. The officer should have explained the violation of the particular law. It does not matter whether you know about the law or not, ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Side note: I know you said that you didn't have tint on your passenger side window, but police have the right to open a door, when they can't see through your passenger side window as well to see the driver.
Georgia Tint Law Enacted: 2005

HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN GEORGIA?

Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Georgia, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.

Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.

Front Side Windows Must allow more than 32% of light in.

Back Side Windows Must allow more than 32% of light in.

Rear Window Must allow more than 32% of light in.

HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE IN GEORGIA?

Similar to sunglass lenses, some tinting film contain metallic elements that help in reflecting incoming light and reducing the glare and heat generated by visible light.

Front Side Windows Must not be more than 20% reflective.

Back Side Windows Must not be more than 20% reflective.

OTHER GEORGIA RULES AND REGULATIONS

Restricted Colors The tint color(s) of RED AMBER are not legal by state law.

Side Mirrors No restrictions.

Certificate Requirements Manufacturers of film do NOT need to certify the film they sell in the state.

Sticker Requirements No sticker to identify legal tinting is required.

Ignorance of the law is never a defense that is accepted. Not a judgment call, just how judges see it.

Since this isn't a serious offense, I doubt much will happen. Do you have the option of going to court for the ticket? I've never had a license, so I don't know if all tickets involve court or not. Anyway, if you can go to court, you could always just try explaining that you didn't realize all tint was illegal, especially one that wasn't that dark, but don't use it as a whiny "Take away the ticket" ploy, Tell the judge that you are getting or have already gotten it changed. If you've already changed it, even better I would think. Maybe the judge will toss it or lower the fine if you're that cooperative.

Who knows. I'm just shootin' in the dark here.
I'm not a cop, but you have no idea how much stuff the police just let go because it is minor. I do not know the full story here but agree: ignorance of the law is no excuse.

When I first moved to my present abode, my license plate expired during the move, new job, etc and I forgot. That's my fault. I was in a parking lot and a local police cruiser pulled in. The young officer asked if I knew my tag was expired and I said yes. I told him I kept meaning to look up the local place to change tags, and he kindly made an offer: "Meet me in this parking lot at 1pm since I have to deliver a prisoner to the county jail, and the vehicle tag place is there. Just follow me and you'll get no ticket."

I think my polite attitude and admitting I knew it was expired had a lot to do with it.
Yes, the cops can give you a ticket for that (and pretty much anything....it will make your head spin)

Fortunately, I don't think the ticket for window tint will be very high but your going to have to pay it.

Georgia counties are strapped for cash. Hell I've seen police officers sitting on 285 at night with their lights of using a radar.

(I personally think that is a tragedy waiting to happen, but thats another story)
Times are getting so hard and they need money

so much anymore that you may get a ticket now

for jaywalking in a swimming pool! In other words, once they have your name as an offender on their ticket pad and when you go before a judge, you will give up some money, whatever the judge calls for. Feel lucky the tint

was all he wrote you up over, I'm sure had he

tried, he would have crumped up another charge

or two.
Obviously, yours and the cops idea of window tint are different. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse.

  • Do I need to remove prior window tint before retinting?

Do I have to remove the very light tint I already have on my windows if I want to make them darker or can I just put the new film over the old? I'm gonna take it to a shop so how much might the removal cost? I know that a tint (7 window) is gonna cost around $150....Do I need to remove prior window tint before retinting?
remove the old tinting, just look on team-integra.net and go under articles and then projects and look for removing tinting. Its fairly easy and it worth itDo I need to remove prior window tint before retinting?
You can leave the old tint on, but you might want to factor in the percentage of the old tint to the new one...if you're concerned about it being legal...but if tint isn't against the law to have it at a certain % you'll have no problems

The bubble only occure if you open your window right after the new tinting is put on, if you wait the 2 to 3 days you'll be fine and make the window is clean before the new tint is put over the old...it won't look bad at all, it'll make the window look darker which isn't a bad thingDo I need to remove prior window tint before retinting?
Yup, unless you want a whole bunch of bubbles and some ghetoo looking windows you need to remove the tint. Take the tinit off yourself. Razor blades and goo-gone.

What is the Illinois window tint law?

I live in illinois and am thinking about tinting my windows. i have no factory tint. all my windows are untinted. i drive a ford contour, a 4 door sedan. what are the laws about window tint in central illinois? What is the Illinois window tint law?
Current law allows any darkness behind the driver and NONE on either side of the driver or on the windshield below 6 inches from the top of the windshield. Reflective tinting is not allowed. Dual side mirrors are mandatory if the rear window is tinted.

There is a bill in the Assembly to allow no less than 50% transmissivity non-reflective tint on either side of the driver but raises the rear standard to no less than 35% transmissivity. As of Oct 15, 2009 it was in the Rules Committee. http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStat鈥?/a>

How much should a good window tint cost for coupe?

i want the 2 front windows, 2 back windows(real small ones), and the rear window tinted. How much should a good window tint cost for coupe?
    Dyed films cheap $100

    HP metal and dyes $115-135

    All Metal $150-190

    Ceramic Film $200-250

Get a lifetime warranty against fade or color change. How much should a good window tint cost for coupe?
i am not sure of exact costs, but do not go with the cheapest you find. the cheaper ones will use a cheaper substance that the tint is made from and will end up looking purple like you see on older cars with tint. How much should a good window tint cost for coupe?
that might run you around $150-$200 depending on where you live. A place in my town did my 2 front windows on my Tahoe for $35/window so it cost $70 total.

Also, beware of cheaper prices because they can really determine the quality of the tint. The man that did mine has been in business for 15 years so I trusted him :) and they turned out great!!

then goo gone or some other form of adhesive remover to get the rest of the junk offHow to take off window tint with normal things found around house?
    best and easiest way follows...

let sit in sun on hot day for an hour os so....

then find the edge and peel old tint off...to take the glue residue off go to hardware store and buy 00 steel wool and rub entire window and it will remove the glue residue.

dont worry about scratches....the 00 steel wool is so fine it wont scratch and also works awesome for defrost line,

Is there such a thing as a "clear window tint" that blocks and protects against UV rays?

Hey my Civic has a moon roof with an un-tinted glass window. I really want to avoid tinting it if at all possible since it kind of defeats the purpose in a way. So my question is: "Is there any sort of clear "tint like" protective film that can be added to the window that will block out the harmful UV rays and still be crystal clear to see through?

Thanks!!Is there such a thing as a "clear window tint" that blocks and protects against UV rays?
We are biased but to be fair I will list the choices, but do your own homework!

FormulaOne Pinnacle film is light yet still reduces heat by factoring out IR check http://www.formulaone.com

Huper Optik Ceramic Film at http://www.huperoptikusa.com

Madico has a new film Winco , http://www.madico.com

Very light films in VLT yet more than 50% heat rejection and 99.9% UV for all the films above.
Last I checked yes and no. Yes, Extreme Make over home edition did a thing on a girl that is very sensitive to the sun and they tinted the house windows with clear uv film.

No I have not seen auto grade uv film that is clear, but very low tint color. Try Lowe's for the house stuff and E-bay for the auto grade. Hope this helpsIs there such a thing as a "clear window tint" that blocks and protects against UV rays?
Yes. It works a lot like the polarization on sunglasses. You should be able to find it at your corner auto parts store. Many cars (especially those with very large windows like vans) already have UV protection on the windows.
Purchase some 50% window tint. It's BARELY noticeable, and will filter out most harmful UV rays. You could probably have a shop install some for under $20.Is there such a thing as a "clear window tint" that blocks and protects against UV rays?
Yes! While not completely clear, it would not obstruct your view in anyway! Your local car parts store should have it with the window tints and such! Good luck!
its called solar tint some cars that have the rear windows on dark tint and the front doesnt look like it has it will more than likely have it

  • What is a good percentage of window tint for a 2007 true red mazda 3i sedan? ?

I am mainly getting window tint to block the sunlight from getting into my 15 month old daughters eyes. So, I would like it dark enough but not to the extreme. I also don't want it to look funny because it's NOT dark enough.. I was thinking 20%.What is a good percentage of window tint for a 2007 true red mazda 3i sedan? ?
just go for the darkest legal tint and that will be fineWhat is a good percentage of window tint for a 2007 true red mazda 3i sedan? ?
20% is good enough. It's dark, but not impossible to see through at night. What is a good percentage of window tint for a 2007 true red mazda 3i sedan? ?
20% could be ilegal in some states

if that it doesnt a matter they are fine but only for the sides of the cars 20% in the windshield is dark for the night driving
