The other day I was given a ticket for window tint?

The other day I was given a ticket for window tint. I have no tint in the front windshield nor the driver or passenger side. In georgia is it illegal to have tint and is it legal for a cop to give you a ticket if you didnt know that reguler tint was illegal in georgia ? I do have tint in my back windows but viewers from outside can still see clean through my car.The other day I was given a ticket for window tint?
"Ignorance of the law is no excuse" is something we are all taught in government/civics classes.
From the GA code: "...this Code section shall not apply to: (6) The rear windshield or the side or door windows, except those windows to the right and left of the driver of:(A) A multipurpose passenger vehicle." If tinting is legal on windshield, front sides then you should not have been ticketed.

The other day I was given a ticket for window tint?
It's not illegal for the officer to give you a ticket for a window tint violation. This is pretty common. The officer should have explained the violation of the particular law. It does not matter whether you know about the law or not, ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Side note: I know you said that you didn't have tint on your passenger side window, but police have the right to open a door, when they can't see through your passenger side window as well to see the driver.
Georgia Tint Law Enacted: 2005

HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN GEORGIA?

Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Georgia, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.

Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.

Front Side Windows Must allow more than 32% of light in.

Back Side Windows Must allow more than 32% of light in.

Rear Window Must allow more than 32% of light in.

HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE IN GEORGIA?

Similar to sunglass lenses, some tinting film contain metallic elements that help in reflecting incoming light and reducing the glare and heat generated by visible light.

Front Side Windows Must not be more than 20% reflective.

Back Side Windows Must not be more than 20% reflective.

OTHER GEORGIA RULES AND REGULATIONS

Restricted Colors The tint color(s) of RED AMBER are not legal by state law.

Side Mirrors No restrictions.

Certificate Requirements Manufacturers of film do NOT need to certify the film they sell in the state.

Sticker Requirements No sticker to identify legal tinting is required.

Medical Exemption State allows medical exemptions for special tint. For more details about the specific terms of the exemption, consult your state law.The other day I was given a ticket for window tint?
Ignorance of the law is never a defense that is accepted. Not a judgment call, just how judges see it.

Since this isn't a serious offense, I doubt much will happen. Do you have the option of going to court for the ticket? I've never had a license, so I don't know if all tickets involve court or not. Anyway, if you can go to court, you could always just try explaining that you didn't realize all tint was illegal, especially one that wasn't that dark, but don't use it as a whiny "Take away the ticket" ploy, Tell the judge that you are getting or have already gotten it changed. If you've already changed it, even better I would think. Maybe the judge will toss it or lower the fine if you're that cooperative.

Who knows. I'm just shootin' in the dark here.
I'm not a cop, but you have no idea how much stuff the police just let go because it is minor. I do not know the full story here but agree: ignorance of the law is no excuse.

When I first moved to my present abode, my license plate expired during the move, new job, etc and I forgot. That's my fault. I was in a parking lot and a local police cruiser pulled in. The young officer asked if I knew my tag was expired and I said yes. I told him I kept meaning to look up the local place to change tags, and he kindly made an offer: "Meet me in this parking lot at 1pm since I have to deliver a prisoner to the county jail, and the vehicle tag place is there. Just follow me and you'll get no ticket."

I think my polite attitude and admitting I knew it was expired had a lot to do with it.
Yes, the cops can give you a ticket for that (and pretty much anything....it will make your head spin)

Fortunately, I don't think the ticket for window tint will be very high but your going to have to pay it.

Georgia counties are strapped for cash. Hell I've seen police officers sitting on 285 at night with their lights of using a radar.

(I personally think that is a tragedy waiting to happen, but thats another story)
Times are getting so hard and they need money

so much anymore that you may get a ticket now

for jaywalking in a swimming pool! In other words, once they have your name as an offender on their ticket pad and when you go before a judge, you will give up some money, whatever the judge calls for. Feel lucky the tint

was all he wrote you up over, I'm sure had he

tried, he would have crumped up another charge

or two.
Obviously, yours and the cops idea of window tint are different. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse.

  • Do I need to remove prior window tint before retinting?

Do I have to remove the very light tint I already have on my windows if I want to make them darker or can I just put the new film over the old? I'm gonna take it to a shop so how much might the removal cost? I know that a tint (7 window) is gonna cost around $150....Do I need to remove prior window tint before retinting?
remove the old tinting, just look on team-integra.net and go under articles and then projects and look for removing tinting. Its fairly easy and it worth itDo I need to remove prior window tint before retinting?
You can leave the old tint on, but you might want to factor in the percentage of the old tint to the new one...if you're concerned about it being legal...but if tint isn't against the law to have it at a certain % you'll have no problems

The bubble only occure if you open your window right after the new tinting is put on, if you wait the 2 to 3 days you'll be fine and make the window is clean before the new tint is put over the old...it won't look bad at all, it'll make the window look darker which isn't a bad thingDo I need to remove prior window tint before retinting?
Yup, unless you want a whole bunch of bubbles and some ghetoo looking windows you need to remove the tint. Take the tinit off yourself. Razor blades and goo-gone.

What is the Illinois window tint law?

I live in illinois and am thinking about tinting my windows. i have no factory tint. all my windows are untinted. i drive a ford contour, a 4 door sedan. what are the laws about window tint in central illinois? What is the Illinois window tint law?
Current law allows any darkness behind the driver and NONE on either side of the driver or on the windshield below 6 inches from the top of the windshield. Reflective tinting is not allowed. Dual side mirrors are mandatory if the rear window is tinted.

There is a bill in the Assembly to allow no less than 50% transmissivity non-reflective tint on either side of the driver but raises the rear standard to no less than 35% transmissivity. As of Oct 15, 2009 it was in the Rules Committee. http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStat鈥?/a>

How much should a good window tint cost for coupe?

i want the 2 front windows, 2 back windows(real small ones), and the rear window tinted. How much should a good window tint cost for coupe?
    Dyed films cheap $100

    HP metal and dyes $115-135

    All Metal $150-190

    Ceramic Film $200-250

Get a lifetime warranty against fade or color change. How much should a good window tint cost for coupe?
i am not sure of exact costs, but do not go with the cheapest you find. the cheaper ones will use a cheaper substance that the tint is made from and will end up looking purple like you see on older cars with tint. How much should a good window tint cost for coupe?
that might run you around $150-$200 depending on where you live. A place in my town did my 2 front windows on my Tahoe for $35/window so it cost $70 total.

Also, beware of cheaper prices because they can really determine the quality of the tint. The man that did mine has been in business for 15 years so I trusted him :) and they turned out great!!

need to take old tint off car windows and don't have a fortune to spend any suggestions on how to do this? How to take off window tint with normal things found around house?
    razor blades thats funny

then goo gone or some other form of adhesive remover to get the rest of the junk offHow to take off window tint with normal things found around house?
    best and easiest way follows...

let sit in sun on hot day for an hour os so....

then find the edge and peel old tint off...to take the glue residue off go to hardware store and buy 00 steel wool and rub entire window and it will remove the glue residue.

dont worry about scratches....the 00 steel wool is so fine it wont scratch and also works awesome for defrost line,

do not use a razor blade on defrost line, you will damage them and may cut yourselfHow to take off window tint with normal things found around house?
    razor blades and Goo Gone.

Use the razor to scrape the film off the window and the Goo Gone to get rid of the residue left on the glass.
u could use a hair dryer heat it up and will start to bubble so u can peel it off

Is there such a thing as a "clear window tint" that blocks and protects against UV rays?

Hey my Civic has a moon roof with an un-tinted glass window. I really want to avoid tinting it if at all possible since it kind of defeats the purpose in a way. So my question is: "Is there any sort of clear "tint like" protective film that can be added to the window that will block out the harmful UV rays and still be crystal clear to see through?

Thanks!!Is there such a thing as a "clear window tint" that blocks and protects against UV rays?
We are biased but to be fair I will list the choices, but do your own homework!

FormulaOne Pinnacle film is light yet still reduces heat by factoring out IR check http://www.formulaone.com

Huper Optik Ceramic Film at http://www.huperoptikusa.com

Madico has a new film Winco , http://www.madico.com

Very light films in VLT yet more than 50% heat rejection and 99.9% UV for all the films above.
Last I checked yes and no. Yes, Extreme Make over home edition did a thing on a girl that is very sensitive to the sun and they tinted the house windows with clear uv film.

No I have not seen auto grade uv film that is clear, but very low tint color. Try Lowe's for the house stuff and E-bay for the auto grade. Hope this helpsIs there such a thing as a "clear window tint" that blocks and protects against UV rays?
Yes. It works a lot like the polarization on sunglasses. You should be able to find it at your corner auto parts store. Many cars (especially those with very large windows like vans) already have UV protection on the windows.
Purchase some 50% window tint. It's BARELY noticeable, and will filter out most harmful UV rays. You could probably have a shop install some for under $20.Is there such a thing as a "clear window tint" that blocks and protects against UV rays?
Yes! While not completely clear, it would not obstruct your view in anyway! Your local car parts store should have it with the window tints and such! Good luck!
its called solar tint some cars that have the rear windows on dark tint and the front doesnt look like it has it will more than likely have it

I am mainly getting window tint to block the sunlight from getting into my 15 month old daughters eyes. So, I would like it dark enough but not to the extreme. I also don't want it to look funny because it's NOT dark enough.. I was thinking 20%.What is a good percentage of window tint for a 2007 true red mazda 3i sedan? ?
just go for the darkest legal tint and that will be fineWhat is a good percentage of window tint for a 2007 true red mazda 3i sedan? ?
20% is good enough. It's dark, but not impossible to see through at night. What is a good percentage of window tint for a 2007 true red mazda 3i sedan? ?
20% could be ilegal in some states

if that it doesnt a matter they are fine but only for the sides of the cars 20% in the windshield is dark for the night driving

Has anyone actually used spray-on window tint?

I've heard a couple of people saying that it's better to get car windows tinted professionally, and to get tint film put on, but I haven't heard from anyone who has actually used spray tint, and would like to know their experiences.

ThanksHas anyone actually used spray-on window tint?
I tried it back in the late 60's, it made a mess!, when you spray it on it just ran down the window everywhere.
use film mate can be bought cheaply. remember not to go to dark or use on the windscreen as people have to see who is driving at the time...law.Has anyone actually used spray-on window tint?
Must be fun scraping spray on, off when plod pull you as opposed to peeling film.

Surely not..I mean spray tint speaks for its self!

How do i out smart the window tint laws in tennessee?

legal tint for ur side windows are 35% i got 5% on my sides and rear glass and my entire windshield is 15% i like em dark adn yes i can see out of them. i also have HIDS so i see jus fine but im always gettin pulled over is there some way i can get a slip or some kind of sheet saying i can have it as dark as i want ?How do i out smart the window tint laws in tennessee?
Get a VALID prescription from your eye doctor stating you need the tint for medical reasons. How do i out smart the window tint laws in tennessee?
Doubt it. It's also a safety issue for law enforcement. If I am approaching your vehicle I sure as heck want to be able to see inside. For your safety as well as mine. How do i out smart the window tint laws in tennessee?
No way to outsmart it other than to try to get the tint regulation changed...

Truthfully it has nothing to do about YOU being able to see the roads...It is really about the police being able to see inside your vehicle at all times....too dark a tint, and they can't see in.

What eye conditions are acceptable for window tint exemptions in Michigan?

I already know the tint laws.... any amount on back windows and then top 4 inches on front and windsheild. ....... basically i really want to kno if astigmatism counts... with the condition it focuses light in the back of retina which can give you headaches and sensitivity to light.. and in my case its a little worse since i have baby blue eyes which allow more light into the eye over darker eyes such as dark brown eyesWhat eye conditions are acceptable for window tint exemptions in Michigan?
Nice try, but no cigar, dude. Medically nessary means that it would cause you great harm to have light radiation. Just being sensitive to light with asitgmatism does not cut it. You can wear sun glasses. So, no doctor in the world would give you a waiver for that.

  • So i need a good car window tint that does not reduce my visibility too much no matter how dark the tints?

im looking for a very dark window tint for my car that doesnt reduce my visibility at night. Im looking for something darker than 20% possibly 5% and they should be high quality as well. I live in brooklyn new york i wanna get them done at a local car shopSo i need a good car window tint that does not reduce my visibility too much no matter how dark the tints?
Your basically asking for something that does not exist. The whole point of tinting the windows is to keep light/viewing out. So the darker you go the harder it is to see at night. No matter what brand or who puts it on, 5% tint only lets 5% of the outside light in. It is very hard to back a car up at night with 5% tint when there are no lights around. So i need a good car window tint that does not reduce my visibility too much no matter how dark the tints?
I agree with the first answer. 5% will definitely reduce your visibility at night. The darkest tint that wont reduce your visibility would be 20%.

Will the bubble in my window tint go away?

I just had my windows tinted 20% today in my bmw. On the way home i noticed a bubble in the bottom of the window. The bubble is probably a half an inch long and its on the bottom part of the tent on my window. Will a bubble like this go away or should i have them fix it?Will the bubble in my window tint go away?
its an air bubble it will not go away on its own take the car back and have it fixedWill the bubble in my window tint go away?
The bubble will most likely not ever go away. Since you went and paid to have this done, you need to take it back to them and have them fix it. If you wait very long they probably won't fix it for you. If it were me I would be there the first thing in the morning waiting on their door step to get it repaired. The sooner the better. Will the bubble in my window tint go away?
Bubble is result of air trap..... it will not going away. air expand during hot weather so you will see it bigger later.

Quick fix. use a fine needle. poke a hole and squeeze the air out.
Sometimes it will go away and most of the time it won't. It should have been bubble free when you got it back.

What kind of window tint should i use?

I am planning on putting window tint on my 1990 BMW 525i. Im using www.snaptint.com which lets me choose the front and rear shades and the color. the options are 80%, 50%, 35%, 20%, 5%. And for the color: Neutral, Charcoal, True Gray, Bronze, and Blue.

What rear and front combination and color would look best on an alpine white 525i?

Should i get the front windshield strip as well? What kind of window tint should i use?
Go with a charcoal neutral look and try to adhere to your tint laws particularly if you live in a state where they meter the glass during an inspection. What kind of window tint should i use?
What are your state regulations? Tint it too dark and you can get hit with a fat ticket and made to remove it. Expensive. Additionally most cars have some tint from the factory and anything you add is cumulative. If your state says max 35% and you buy 35% tint you could be too dark. That's why I have mine done by tint shops that have to comply with the state regulations. In the long run it's cheaper. Plus, if it bubbles, they have to fix it.

  • Is there a new nationwide car window tint law?

My friend keeps telling me that there is a nationwide window tint law that allows a 30% tint in the front windows. I've been looking it up but can't find anything. By the way I'm from new york where law is 70%.Is there a new nationwide car window tint law?
    Nope. State by state.

There's no money in it for Washington to get involved. Yet.Is there a new nationwide car window tint law?
Many states do not allow front window tint at all ( Fl and Ca are 2). The reason is that police have been killed by people with guns behind the windows. In some states front tinted windows are a primary stop in others you have to be stopped for another offense before you will get a ticket.

If it was legal it would be offered as a popular factory option on new cars. I have never seen it driving by any new car lots.Is there a new nationwide car window tint law?
    http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/

this site will break it down for you state by state. no nation wide law. this is why automobiles come from the factory with hardly any tint to the windows on most 4 door and 2 door models, only the back windows on 2 door cars and trucks come with factory tinting because some states allow no tint at all on the front windows.
No, states have the right to make their vehicle and driving laws that's why each state have different laws in these areas. It's common sense no need to look it up on the internet.

Razor blade the best -fastest and easiet way, follow with a good cleaner like windex.
The window tint glue is water base. Use glass cleaner and a NEW single edge razor blade. Soak the window with the cleaner, wait about 30 seconds %26amp; scrape.I have a car that window tint removed how do i remove the stickyness on the window?
try krud off or goo be gone
there is a product in most stores that sell tint that is made for that,I have a car that window tint removed how do i remove the stickyness on the window?
If you're going to have the tint put in by professionals, thay'll clean it, If you're going to do a home-made job, then you can try WD-40.
Alcohol, or you can get a product called Gum Out (or something like that) at OfficeMax or Staples.
    Try Nail Polish Remover
go to the hardware store and buy some adhesive cleaner...you probably don't need the heavy duty one's like goo gone. i would almost say to try vineger...that might work. but if not, just go buy a liquid adhesive cleaner. or using a new blade and water, clean it off.
    GOO GONE by

    Magic American Corporation

I think you can get it at the grocery store or hardware store.
Acetone will work. Don't get any on the interior though. Put some on a rag and then wipe it off,
I would try the products that are for this purpose. If you do use a razor blade, use a new one and DO NOT drag the blade backwards. ALWAYS forward. The reason is, dragging it backwards can cause any hard particals to scratch the glass as they are drug under the blade, where going in the forward direction "lift's" the particals up onto the blade. Soapy water also helps lubricate the blade and less chance of scratching.

    Good luck!

You know that part below the window wher the window slides down into when you roll it down, do they take that off to install the tint? When you take your car to a mechanic to put window tint on it does the mechanic take off the door panel?
I disagree. Some tinting is applied on the inside, which would require removing the inner door panel. No. They don't even open up the door unless you want tint on the inside which is dumb. They just put it on the outside.

i have gotten to tickets for window tint on my front windows and i have had them both signed off and payed the $25 dollar fine now what happens if i continue to get tickets for it? is there a 3 strike rule? or anything that adds up?I have two Window tint tickets, what happens at the third?
It depends on where you live because in most states you need to bring proof that the tint has either been removed of corrected and yes they love making money but if this continues you can be fined a much higher fine since you have disregarded already twice...............
Nope. Don't worry about it. The state loves making money off of you. Pretty soon it will be a weekly event for them. I had a friend that did the same thing with the numbers on his boat that weren't correctly installed. After he was ticketed a few times and it wound up costing him a $500 fine the fourth time, he gave up and installed the correct color of letters at the correct angle. He paid a total of $850 in fines for an incorrectly displayed identification number that should have cost him $10 to install correctly the first time! He did make his point though, at least until he found out the next fine for the fifth offense was $1,000! He did make life interesting for the lake patrol for about two months!I have two Window tint tickets, what happens at the third?
Just be glad you don't live down here. The state trooper handed my nephew a scraper and told him to remove it or he'd tow the car for safety violations. And that was with no previous write ups. In addition he wrote him a ticket with a notation that the offense had been corrected. He still had to pay the ticket.
Tickets are money. They just want your money.

Wouldn't worry about the ticket, but if you get caught 3 times, by dim witted police no less, then you would be considered.....stupI have two Window tint tickets, what happens at the third?

Ignore that comment. It looks great. Especially if you have a black car/truck or a dark colored car (red etc). And the best part is that it's legal. My friend has a dodge all black and he put black tint on his lights and it looks great. Just make sure you do it professional quality.

He used limo tint on his on lights and they still show red so its legal as can be. But if you want to be a rogue like him, tint the front headlights too. They really dont show up less bright and they look greatCan i use regular window tint, to tint my tail lights?

take it to a professional window tint company. otherwise you're going to remove more than just the tint.
I have just used a home steamer," The Shark" to remove the tint off the rear glass. Removed the tint, more steam and paper towel to remove the glue. No razor blades. No damage to defroster lines.

How do i remove window tint w/o damaging the rear window defrosters?
Check the auto parts stores for liquid window tint film remover (assuming you have the film-type window tint, that is). Be very careful using it, because it could loosen the adhesive that holds the defroster lines on as well.

    Or try this:

    Window Tint Removal

    Time: 1-3 hours

    Materials:

    Warm sunny day

    Tarp

    Large plastic garbage bag

    Undiluted Ammonia

    Windex (a glass cleaner)

    Paper towels

    Fine steel wool

    Razor blades

    Tools:

    Slotted Screwdrivers

    Phillips Screwdrivers

Tips: The difficult thing about removing tint is that most film is constructed of two layers of tinted polyester. When you try to peel the film off the glass, the top layer will usually pull right off leaving the second layer behind. This second layer will not peel off, it will just flake and tear like a price tag.

    Step 1:

To over come separation between layers you must soften the adhesive so that both layers peel at the same time. This is very important, if you peel the just the top layer, you may as well just use razor blades as there is no way to peel the second layer off without picking at it for a few hours. You MUST try to peel both layers at once.

NOTE: You are more than likely to damage one or more of your defroster lines, when this happens, the cut line will not work anymore. Some cars have radio antennas mounted alongside the defrosters made of the same material. If you damage these, your radio antenna will not work! Be careful! Taking it to a tint shop to be done greatly increases the odds of saving the lines, but even a tint shop can not promise to save your lines, sometimes the film is just to far gone.

    Step 2:

First, clear the window of any obstructions, like the brake light, speaker covers etc.

    Step 3:

Next cut open the garbage bag so that it will be big enough to cover the entire window. Spray some water on the outside of the back window and the lay plastic bag over the glass. Cut away excess plastic so that it is now roughly the same shape as the glass.

    Step 4:

Next, lay a tarp over rear deck and seat, spray ammonia liberally on the inside of the back window. (Ammonia is very strong, I suggest you hold your breath during this step) and cover ammonia soaked tint with the plastic bag so that it won't evaporate.

    Step 5:

Park the car with rear window facing the sun for about an hour. The film should now be ready to peel.

    Step 6:

When you are ready to start peeling, leave the plastic in place so the ammonia wont dry. Get the peeling started with a razor blade in a corner where there are no defroster lines. Try to peel film off in one piece. If the ammonia dries as you peel, the glue will get hard again, so spray a bit of ammonia on the area as you peel.

    Step 7:

Once the film is peeled you will need to scrub the adhesive off with ammonia and fine 0000 steel wool.

Mop up scrubbed areas with paper towels before they dry. Finish up with window cleaner and paper towels.

    Removing tint from side windows

Soaking is not nessesary here. You may want to use a simple razorblade holder. Cut a notch onto the upper area of the film so that you have a piece to pull. Try to peel the film, it will probably come off in two or three pieces. Spray the remaining adhesive with soapy water, and scrape the adhesive off with a razor blade, avoiding the edges of the glass until last to keep the blade sharp. You may need to use a few blades as they dull quickly. Finish up with window cleaner and paper towels. Inspect for missed glue (its clear and hard to see)

Another way to strip using steam

If you have access to a Jiffy steamer or similar steam machine, you can make quick work of stripping. Apply the steam to a small spot for a few moments and use a blade or the spout of the steamer to peel the area just steamed, when you have enough to hold, just peel slowly as you steam just ahead of the area you are peeling.

This will bring both layers of tint off and sometimes the adhesive too, without presoaking for an hour.
spray the window with ammonia and apply a thick black garbage bag. the bag will melt to the tint and you can pull it off. it sounds goofy but it worksHow do i remove window tint w/o damaging the rear window defrosters?
you dont... unless you want to try using a heat gun to peel it off, dont know how good that would work though
Professionals use a steamer to easyly remove the tint without damaging the defroster. Unless you have that, you'll end up damaging the defrosters or have a really crappy rear glass.
If you are very good with hand to eye coordination, use a razor and cut lines between the rows of the defroster. Peel the tint using the edge of the razor and spray hot soapy water between the film and the glass. Do not peel back too hard, or you may damage the defrost lines. Let the soapy water do the job. Be extra careful at the point where the defrost line goes from horizontal to vertical (this is a weak spot).

The big problem here is if you damage the defrost line, it is repairable, but not easy to do and it doesn't look too good.

You may want to spend a few extra dollars and let a professional do it.

    Good luck!

I have a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse which is a hatch back and I am going to remove the window tint. Mount it in the glove box. Oh, the sub box; you'lose a lot of space, but run a sheet of plywood over the whole back end.Going to remove window Tint on car. How can I conceal my stereo so it doesn't get stolen ?
I would secure the subs with security screws. The box can be secured with right angle brackets using security screws or bolting to floor with bolts in the box. This would mean that the speakers would need to be removed to have the box removed. The average thief don't carry toolboxes. As far as the head unit, just change the screws or bolts to ones with security heads.Going to remove window Tint on car. How can I conceal my stereo so it doesn't get stolen ?
I disassembled the factory radio and used the face of it to put over my aftermarket one. My aftermarket radio is set into my dash just far enough to allow this and you cannot tell that I did that. It works perfectly cause nobody ever wants to steal the factory unit. Don't know what to tell you about the enclosure. That's a bit big to conceal

How to figure out window tint percentage?

My husband got pulled over for barely tinted windows and he gave him a ticket with out testing it. My husband pleaded not guilty and has to go in in about a month or 2. How do I find out if what percentage our tint is without buying a meter? How to figure out window tint percentage?
Many window film shops have tint meters that measure the light transmission. Call around or check http://www.llumar.comHow to figure out window tint percentage?
Go to a photography shop and ask the photograhper to measure with a light gauge. You can buy a light gauge- Vivitar makes a cheap one. Compare outside to inside light. If the tink is too dark, you have to remove it and pay the "fixit" fine. Another thing you can do if you feel lucky is to go to the Highway Patrol office and have them check. If the tint is in fact legal, they can sign off your ticket and you can take that to court to prove your innocence. If the HIghway Patrol proves the tint is illegal, you can work on getting it off, then have the fixit ticket signed off and take that to court. How to figure out window tint percentage?
you can use a solar cell and a flashlight and a voltmeter

place the solarcell directly in front of the flashlight and use the voltmeter to get a reading of the voltage produced. this is 100% then place the solar cell on the side of the tinted window then place the flashlight in the other side of the window and read the voltage , that will tell you what percent tint it is.

How do I properly clean window tint "film" without hurting it?

there is a cleaner for window tint. look at o'reilly's or aut zone maybe even wal-mart. do not use anything else but window tint cleaner
For all window films and auto tint, NEVER use windex, b/c it contains amonia, and amonia will kill the properties of the film, causing the material to turn purple within few days and then lots of air bubles, consequently you'll have garbage hanging in there.

Also, do not use vinegar or alcohol.

When my parents installed window tinting, they were told to clean it with baby shampoo and water. It might not work right on your brand, so use a test area first.
Sorry to say man, but water is your best bet. Almost any type of window cleaner will ruin the film. I would suggest cleaning it with plain water and using newspaper instead of paper towels, or anything else. Trust me, after numerous white glove inspections in the Marines, Windex and newspaper to clean windows. Since you have tint, Water and newspaper. How do I properly clean window tint "film" without hurting it?
I used to do window tinting. We recommended using water with a bit of dish soap in it (like Dawn or something like that). We would put it in a spray bottle and spray down the tinted glass and carefully clean with towels. Something else to use is a bit of a nice smelling shampoo in place of the dish soap. Just add a couple of drops to the spray bottle and now you get a nice smelling cleaner that is tint safe.

Avoid using stuff that has ammonia in it. We used ammonia to remove the tint from windows.
ok, i cleaned cars for eight years and have talked to several window tinters, and car cleaning chemical specialist, and they all say the same thing. Glass cleaner is good as long as it does not have Ammonia-D in it. The ammonia breaks apart the glue

If you've found a better price, let the dealer know. Since you haven't received the service, and it was charged to a credit card you are eligible for a refund. If the dealer refuses, let them know that you will dispute the charge with your credit card company as you haven't received the products/services for which you were charged. See how they react to that.

Im not sure you can legally ask for a refund because you have buyers remorse.

Otherwise, you're innocent until proven guilty and the state has the burden of proving it's case against you beyond a reasonable doubt. Try using a product called WD-40 which is available at any hardware store. Try it out first by spraying a small amount on a small section. Let it stand a few seconds and then wipe clean with a paper towel. If this works then move on to another section. Do this is piece-meal fashion. what you don't want is to have the WD-40 dry out on the window.

Even if this doesn't work, WD-40 is still good for a gazillion uses around the home so it will be money well spent on an outstanding product.

There are small bubbles that aren't that noticeable when you just glance at the window, but if you take the time to look you can see there are lots of fine air bubbles. Now my car got tinted almost 3 years ago. If I just take it the way it is now would I be rejected from a retint? Or should I try to make the bubbles bigger purposely? Do I use a blow drier or something? How do i make my window tint bubble on purpose?
Lifetime is lifetime and the champagne bubbles (that's what we call them) are reason enough for a re-do at no cost. The warranty typically is issued by the window film manufacturer rather than the dealer that did the job, so the re-do is being compensated by the issuer. No need to load the dice! How do i make my window tint bubble on purpose?
it depends on what kind of guarantee or warranty the people that did the tint gave you... after 3 years, I would imagine you wont get anything from them regardless of the size of the bubbles... you should call them and find out before you try to make it look worse...How do i make my window tint bubble on purpose?
I doubt very much that they will do anything after 3 yrs., they probably only give a year warranty, you will have to rip all the old off and have it redone if it bothers you.

How dark of a window tint can you get in New York?

I live in upstate New York and I want to put tint on my windows. I have found it in 35% and 20%. I was thinking 20% all around, except the windshield, or 35% on the front two windows and 20% on all the rear windows. Is that too dark? How dark of a window tint can you get in New York?

.If you want it to match the factory tint you can't go that dark. (20-27%) The stock tint isn't near that dark. Whatever you choose make sure you get UV safe tint. That way the sunlight won't turn it purple over the years. Best bet is to get a professional to do it that will warrant the job for as long as you own it. Any good tint shop will have samples for you to look at so you can choose the VLT you want.

    Window tint!?

I'm looking to get my car tinted. Its an 04 olds Alero 2 door. I'm looking to go as dark as I can, The guy I'm going to does 5 % and 15 %. and I'm really looking at the 5%, don't want to kick myself bc it too dark when he is done.

I guess my question is- Does anyone have any problems seeing at night with 5%? I can't make up my mind.... need help by 10 am Saturday morning.. thanksWindow tint!?
Think about it. The darker the tint, the harder to see through, from the outside and inside.
id go 5 but the po po might have something to say about thatWindow tint!?
Go with the very dark on the windows behind the driver and the not as dark with the windows beside the driver's head. The really dark ones in the front windows make driving at night sometimes difficult. Also, the fuzz will ticket you if they want to be a jerk about it.
I have tinted windows and no problem seeing through them at night. They are not a clear as normal windows but when you have them you can hardly tell the difference.Window tint!?
well heres the answer since no one has 5 percent they dont kno how dark it is...at night it is hard to see out the window...i had it on my back window and 2 rear sides...it took some time to get use to esp if your backing up cause u cant see anything and i have really great vision...i had it 15 on the front windows and it was alot better...
The color of your car is something small to consider. Not all colors or makes of cars look nice with really dark tint. All the basics like white, black, silver, some reds look nice.

Seeing out of the car at night will take some adjustment but beware, I had a vehicle for 6 years that had 5% tint and now driving my new car at night is difficult for me because the lights of the other cars bother me. I only have 35% on this vehicle, mainly because it's illegal for anything lower.
The back 3 windows are fine to do 5% on. The problem comes in if you do 5% on the driver and passenger windows. My roommate did this and had some difficulty seeing cars next to him on the freeway. I have 5 on the rears and 15 on the sides and it is much easier to see but still has a very cool look to it. I hope this helps!
5% is really dark. I used to have a 5% on my SUV's rear and back window. It is okay during the daytime but it is terrible at night especially when you try to back up in a dark parking lot. You can hardly see a thing even with your back up lights on. It has become a safety issue. After my experience with the 5%, Ill never have my car's back windows tinted that dark again. My suggestion would be to use 35 % for the back window and 5% for the two rear windows. You won't be able to tell the difference from the outside because of the shading effect and you'll be glad you did it especially when backing up at night. Tint the forward windows at your own risk. Different states has their own sets of legal limits on how dark you could tint your forward windows. I know California is 35%. In Los Angeles, the police and highway patrol is known to pull over vehicles with overly dark forward windows. Under no circumstances should you tint your windshield more than 6 inches from the top.Hope this helps in your decision making.

ok so i live in wisconsin and legal tint is 50-35-35, i want to do 15 or 20 all around, i was just wondering how much trouble could i get in for it and would they pull me over just for tint or only do something if i was speeding?

and i already draw alot of attention for cops being a 17 yr old ina purple mustangWindow tint?
In Georgia the legal tint is 33, my brother's is at 3.5. He's gotten pulled 3 or 4 times and now he finally decided that he's going to take it off because the consequences keep going up. He still has to pay a 176 dollar ticket. It's not worth it, you are going to have to pay for the tint, pay for the tickets, and then pay to remove the tint.
You already have 2 strikes against you. Flashy car and your young. The tint would give them a reason to pull you over. In Illinois they can pull you over just for tint if they think it's too dark. It's your choice , do you want to be pulled over every other day?Window tint?
i could care less about those law i have 5% all the way around it is illegal where i live i have never gotten a ticket for if i did id just pay it and roll on
It would be a fix it ticket but if you get pulled over ..its a moving violations as well..Your just asking for troubleWindow tint?
If you already know it's wrong, why do it? You're asking to be pulled over and it sounds like you've had personal dealings with your local law enforcement. You're going to pay a lot of money to have your windows tinted, money to pay your ticket, and then money to have the tint removed properly. It sounds like a complete waste of time and money for everyone.
depends on the state, but yes you can be pulled over for having tints on your car cuz it can be construed as an obstruction of your view point. most cops will give you a ticket or warn you, but i personally know cops who have stood there and watched you while you peeled the tints off your car. if you're young and in a flashy mustang, you don't need tints, stick to the regulations otherwise you and your purple mustang will be a moving target for every cop that sees you and just remember that it can also keep you from passing inspection if the tint obstructs your view

How hard is it to see with 5% tint at night?

    AND.........Do they make 10% or 15% tint?Window Tint?
5% is a very dark limo tint. If you have this in a metallic version the reflectivity will also create night time visibility issues. Typically the next VLT level is a 15% and than lighter by 5% increments.

If you opt for a non metal ceramic film like FormulaOne http://www.formulaone.com Pinnacle, Huper Optik Ceramic http://www.huperoptikusa.com or Madico Winco at http://www.madico.com the 15% will be much less reflective! Plus no cell phone or GPS interference.
I have 15 percent tint on all my windows but the front windsheild, on my front windsheild i have 35 percent. Its hard to see at night, you gotta roll down the window and look behind you at times, my buddy who has 5 percent has to roll down his window somes times just to make simple street turns. The percentage is gauged by how much light is let into the car. so a 5 percent tint only lets 5 percent of light into the vehicle! go with madico as it wont purple like others

oh yeah for refrence stock SUVs and Minivans have 35 percent tint on there windowsWindow Tint?
It is VERY hard to see. I live in a state where 5% is only allowed on the back windows and it's still hard to see out of the back. I would recommend 20%. Hard to see in, easier to see at night.
If it's pitch black, it's almost impossible to see outside, or inside of the car. Yes they make 10% and 15%, but personally I would go with 35% to be safe with the law.Window Tint?

Yikes! Don't do it yourself like the one answer mentioned. You'll regret it in a few years when you see what it looks like. Having a professional do it is also nice because they offer warrenties.

It all depends, is your car a 2 or 4 door? The darker you go the more expensive the tint is. But you'd be looking at approx $150 - $250. $250 being fairly high but anywhere that would want more then $250.00 for a Vibe is ripping you off. :)

Plus police officers will sometimes ask if you had it installed at a shop and if you have proof that a shop installed the tint it can in some cases get you out of rediculous tickets.Window tint.............?

i have just bought a new car. I am getting it tinted tomorrow. 35% on the driver and passenger is the darkest they will go on those and anywhere from 20%-5% on the rest. Is 35% tint pretty dark or noticeably different than nothing? I'm not trying to sound dumb i honestly don't know. and should i go 20% or 5% on the rest of the windows? which would look best all around? thank youWindow Tint?
35% is a fairly good compromise for the fronts. It is still noticable but still allows good visibility at night.

Here in the U.K. that would still be illegal. It may be wise to check your State laws. As far as I know you can go darker at the rear but don't go to 5% on your back screen as reversing at night is a nightmare!

The interior upholstery of your car will have a bearing on the final effect as well. I would go for 35% fronts and 20% on the rest. Hope this helps!
35% is pretty good if the rest; back and brow, is darker. I have 35% on my front windows and 5% on my back windows and the rear glass, plus I have 5% on the windshield brow, it's hard for me to see outside at night so I know it's dark.Window Tint?
You can probably find a place that will do 20 all around. I chose that and I like the look. 35 is visibly different than 20 and I just like the look.

Personally, I wouldn't go darker than 20 as your night vision will be affected. I have to roll down my drivers window at night to get out of my driveway.
A good tinting shop will have examples for you to look at and choose your % of tint. I'd be suspicious of a shop that can't do that for you.Window Tint?
Go 20%.... 35% is really nothing. 5% is limo tint and is very, very dark... especially at night.
Too dark will atract the cops, especially if you've got hoopty wheels. Trust me on this.
20% all around looks really good and you can still see through the windows easily enough when you're in the car. 5% is pitch black and impossible to see out of at night
i have 5% in the back and 20% in da front so search bc mines looks really good and fairly dark p front

Will it be expensive to remove the factory tint on the front windows of my 2006 HHR? What about the backseat windows? I'm not a fan of the tint.Window Tint?
"Factory tint" is a dye put into the molten glass at the glass factory. You cannot remove that. Aftermarket tint is a film glued to the glass. You can remove it yourself with a hair dryer and a razor blade. Or take it to a tint installer and let him remove it. If there is a film on the front seat windows it is after maket. Your HHR might have deep tint from the factory behind the front seat area and that is part of the glass.Window Tint?
Actually they might actually cost more removing than having one installed. I would leave it alone if it does not bother you so much, but if it does you might have to shell out some extra cash for the work done right.Window Tint?
Most tint shops charge just about as much to take it off as they do to put it on. Since you are just wanting to do side windows and not windows with a defroster on them. By a flat razor blade and some goo gone. Scrap the tint off with the razor blade and then use the Goo Gone to take of the Tint Glue. You will still have to scrap the glue off with razor blade so buy some extra blades.
you can't remove that tint as it's inside the glass itself, you will have to replace all the glass with clear glass, very expensive proposition.

So, I had my windows broke out in February, and rather than spending double for new windows, I bought some used ones. The used windows were tinted. Not factory, but like the cheap wal-mart stuff. I pulled the plastic off, but the tint didn't come with it. What should I do, to get the tint off?Window Tint?
Windex and a hair dryer. When it gets hot a rasor scraper will peel it off like butter. i had the rear defrost on my car and you just have to be real crefull the rear window will take longer than all the others combined you are right if you hit one of the coils your defrost wont work. it just takes time.Window Tint?
walmart sells a spray to help you take it off that and a straight blade will work or if you can get a heat gun use that also to heat up the stickyness on the tint and it should work

    Window tint????????????????????

how many rolls of window tint would i need to buy to cover my back window, front window, and all 4 side windows? (6 total windows)Window tint????????????????????
Typically 30 sq feet on a 40 inch or 36 inch wide roll. get it dome by a pro LLumar dealer at http://www.llumar.comWindow tint????????????????????
i would buy 4 rolls. there about $15 each depending on the darkness. Its illegal to have your front windshield tinted, and its illegal to have your front side windows darker than 35%. So you might get pulled over, but i have my front windows 20% and ive never had a problem. it all depends on the cop and whether or not he decides to be a as*hole.Window tint????????????????????
It depends on the car you are tinting but your back window and front window will probably be about 5' each and the 4 side windows about 8' so if you aim to get about 20' of film that should do it (maybe a little more incase of a mistake)
I would get a bunch of rolls. You will make a mistake or two unless you are very good or an expert at this. I gave up the first time I did it until I learned the right ways. Good luck.

You had better find out what is legal in your state before tinting.

I know that Iowa will allow lower numbers in the rear of a car.

I install window tint as a side job and I know that some cops can be pretty touchy about it.

If you still want to go as dark as you said I have seen cars that dark and it is rather hard to see at night or even worse on a rainy night.

You should consider all aspects of tint before you go ahead.
yes you should tint the windows, tint cuts the amount of UV light the causes the interior to fade with age. but before you tint the windows, yuo do need to check the local laws regarding window tint. for example here in arizona the darkest you can go on the front windows is 35%. for the rear windows i would go with 15% as that way you can still see well at night while eliminating most of the glare you get from headlights. and yes i have gone with limo(5%) tint and it really is hard to see out of at night.

overnightdeejay, window tint is rated in how much light it allows through, thus 35% tint allows 35% of light through the tint and 5% tint only allows 5% light transmission through the tint. thus the 5% tint is much darker than the 35% tint

Its possible but not recommended. Putting 20% on top of 35% would make that back window damn near black. 35% means it only allows 35% of the sun to come in, so you can actually only allowing 20% or 35% of the sun to come in. Thats a pretty dark dark dangerous tint. jus remove the 35% and apply 20%

There are differences in quality and materials that cover the range of available window films and brands.

To directly answer you the most I would pay is $300 -400

Everyone seems excited by the tint laws, but contrary to what these folks write there are superior films in light vlt's that reject heat. These are the ceramic films by Pinnacle, FormulaOne and Huper Optik. Certainly check your tint laws at http://www.tintlaws.com/about.html

Cheap dyed films - $100- They turn color and fade fast. Make sure that you get a warranty and read the color change area.

HP- High Performance Films. These are metal and dyed mixtures. Generally $125-200. Read the warranty twice. Some tricky manufacturers do not cover the color change or fading of the film to clear or limit that to three years. There are different dye methods some very stable.

LLumar ATR is our preference or the FormulaOne Comfort Series at http://www.formulaone.com

All metal films are next. Super stability no color changes - figure $150-250

Top of line: Ceramic and nano-ceramic films $259-400

    Buyer Beware- Always.
There are different kinds of tints you can get. If you're in/ around Boston try tint king (www.tint-king.com) i think thats the site. Either way, they do excelent work, and I can get it done for around 300 bucks w/ nice tints.

Just make sure its legal where you live.

PLUS, it's ILLEGAL in several states, so check the local laws before you spend the $$

Before you pay anything, check the local/state law on after factory tinting. In California they can make you replace the glass if after factory tinted. The law says something like co add on to make darker than factory supplied. In some cases you can get away with additional tint of the back side glasses only. As far as price, check with the BBB for complaints about the company and make sure you have everything in writing before start of the job.Window Tint?
    150.... anything higher is nonsense...

They will charge what the market will bear and tell you that your getting all this special UV protection and a lifetime warranty...

    Screw that double talk....

Good tint and good installation will probably outlast the car for you anyway...
between the 800 and 150 is usually the people putting it in that can charge you more or its the manufacture that well be more or less depending on the quality

    Window tint?

Dont you know that when your window tint bubbles that means it doesnt work like it was intended? Replacing it is very easy and inexpensive. And who ever installed it to begin with sure didnt do a very good job. I removed my bubbled tint and replaced it myself and it stayed good from then on. So give it a try?Window tint?
And what is your specific question here? Obviously you don't really have one, but are on the soapbox in violation of the community guidelines.

I never did understand how people could mess that up. I have tinted many windows and they have never bubbled.... they must have used just plain water when they applied the film. you are supposed to mix soap and water, it works fine.

I had my 2003 Monte Carlo done for $200. I don't think a 4 door would be much more.Window tint?

I found an ad online for a window tint by professionals for 140 on a 4 door car. Does this seem too cheap or about right and has anyone used this service?

as long as its got the sticker on it saying its legal they cant ticket you for it.mine is 35% and so far i have had it on for 3 years and no tickets yet, that's a good price on it for a 4 door,it runs on an average between 125 bucks and 175 for most 4 door cars ,so they priced it about right, but if they install the sticker with it they cant give you a ticket,my sticker in in under the tint, with a toll free number to the manufacturer of the tint, when they see this they wont ticket you, good luck with it,hope this helps.

That sounds about right. Got mine done for $180. Dunno where you live, but I've never been pulled over or told anything. I have 20% all around. I have a friend who's a cop. He said most cops don't worry about it. Hope this helps.
its an average price... you can tint the rear passenger windows and rear windshield as dark as you want but in California, you cannot have any shade of tint on the front driver and passenger windows and tint on the front windsheild cannot be more than 4" from the top of the windshield... believe me, i've had plenty of tickets for tinted windows... lolWindow tint?
please please please always buy from professionals. never buy from k-mart or those other stores and do it yourself. it looks so ugly. anyways that sounds like the same price i paid for my car. the big thing is you can't get the front winsheild and the driver and front passenger windows tinted dark. however you can get them smoke tinted so its legal. as for the rear windsheild and both rear passenger windows can be limo tinted.
    STOP

Suntek is a low ball window film with a poor coating and lower life expectancy than most window films. Their pricing is about 60% that of a good film in the market so that price is too high for the value (less) you are getting.

    As for that 35%??

WI state law is 50% on the front drive and passenger side/ 35% on the rear windows/ 35 on the rear glass:

    Window tint?

Ok this is actually 2 questions:

1)Will windows with auto defrost wires ruin a regular tint and should i buy a heat resistant tint?

2)How do i remove tint from a window with defrost wires because it is bubbling up and looks like **** and when i tried to peel a little off it jus kinda shredded.

any advice will be much appreciated.Window tint?
defrost wires will not ruin tint regular tint will do that is made for vehicles, as far as the back glass do not peel anymore you might peel off the heating strip and those are like 50 bucks a piece! How do i know this is because my buddy tried doing that to his civic and tore those strips right off with the tint, i would go to a proffesional to have it removed it should take about 5 hours or so on a sunnt day, good luck and have professional retint
Have a professional do it because when you get it half way done and all messed up we charge you more to finish up your mess!

have a pro do it and then you will not have to repeat the same mistake.putting window tint on is not something for a amateur
Even the heat resistant variety will bubble up around it over time. I suggest not putting anything over auto defrost wires unless you don't use the defrost unit. Pull the fuse or don't tint that window.

To remove it, use Acetone (finger nail polish remover) and a razor blade. Just so you know, the acetone can eat rubber and some paints if you're not careful.Window tint?

    Window tint?

I recently bought a car and the previous owner put window tint on themselves, the back window is really bubbly and i was wondering if there was a cheap way to fix it?Window tint?
The only "fix" is to remove it and do it properly. A good tint job isn't as easy as it may appear. Takes a lot of know how, good film and practice to do it so that it doesn't bubble. From the number of cars running around with bubbled tint, there are, obviously, many who don't know the proper material and procedure.
you can take it off.Window tint?
    Have it retinted
Replace it. It's not that expensive.

But look first to see if you have a rear window defroster. It can be very hard to take off old tint without tearing up the defroster if there is one.Window tint?
you can just get a blade and scrape it of your self it might be a little difficult because tint is really really thin

    Window Tint?

I tinted my windows yesterday, I noticed that at the top of the window that there are really small bubbles.. not noticeable from far away.. but if you get close you can see that there are a lot..

prolly just being really picky.. but just wanted to know what i may have done wrong.. After I put the tint on it didn't seem to have any bubbles? ThanksWindow Tint?
When you apply window tint you're supposed to use soapy water.....and then squigee out the bubbles. You shouldn't roll down the windows for at least 24-48 hours after finishing. You could probably push them out with a credit card but i'd be careful doing it. Hope this helps.Window Tint?
That happens, after a few days it will go away, I've had my tint on for almost a year and I still have a few bubbles, I'm not anal about it, i can live with that, if you're really picky, park it in the sun for awhile that will help it go away, or use a hair dryer and credit card to try and smooth them outWindow Tint?
Sounds like you got one of those do it yourself tint kits from Walmart. Those things never really work. And unless you know exactly what your doing it will probably peel before long. Tint shops use heat guns to properly apply the tint. There should not be any air bubbles viewable at any distance.

i have a heated back window... which means i have wires in my back window , i was wondering if i could still put window tint on it without affecting the tint.. or the wiresWindow tint?
Yes you can, I did it and never had any problems.Window tint?
You can..the only problem is if you ever decide to remove it the tint will pull the wires off...they actually make a little aplicator with a brush of that semi metalic defroster stuff to repair it if that happens...I put it on my 2000 Mustang and it has defroster lines...Oh yeah use the defroster only when needed for short periods onlyWindow tint?
I had it on a conquest, no problem.
